Abstract
Nuzul Stages of the Qur'an
The Qur?an was sent down piece by piece to Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). However, in some verses it is mentioned that it was sent down a night. This is like a contradiction. ?Abdallah b. ?Abbas said that The Qur?an had first been sent down into the al-sama? al-dunya. ?Abdallah b. ?Abbas' word solved the problem. Therefore, there is a gradual nuzul of the Qur?an. There are three nuzul stages of the Qur?an in the world. These are al-Law? al-Ma?fu?, al-Sama? al-Dunya and Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). The verse al-Buruj 85:21-22 describes the existence of the Qur?an on the al-Law? al-Ma?fu?. Therefore, the Qur?an was first sent down to the al-Law? al-Ma?fu?. This is the first nuzul stage. The Qur?an does not mention the al-Sama? al-Dunya stage. This is probably due to the difficulty of understanding this stage. As a matter of fact, this issue was learned because of a question asked to ?Abdallah b. ?Abbas. Probably ?Abdallah b. ?Abbas learned this issue from Allah’s Apostle (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). Because it is not possible for ?Abdallah b. ?Abbas to say this information about the gayb from his own view.
